When My Mind Is Too Full
Today is one of those days when I’m struggling to stay focused.
I don’t know that writer’s block always means there’s nothing to write about. For me, sometimes it means there are a million things going through my mind at once, and I can’t figure out which one deserves my attention first.
They all feel important. They all seem to need my attention. And they all require time.
Finances. Business. Family. Marriage. Travel. Presentations to prepare. Family to reach out to. Meetings to attend. Classes to complete. Certifications to achieve. Workouts. Walking. An instrument to practice. People to pray for. Cards to write and mail.
Reconciling the books. Payroll. Taxes. Bills. Cleaning the house. Finding time to rest. Finding time to read. Finding time to write.
The to-do list that somehow gets longer even as I check things off.
Client payments. Invoices. Sales. Marketing. Following up on quotes. Drinking enough water. Eating enough protein. Taking my supplements. Figuring out dinner.
And, apparently, I’m supposed to look youthful while doing all of this.
Then there are all the ideas constantly running through my head—fashion designs, an intentional wardrobe, courses to build, things I want to teach, dreams I want to pursue...
Agh.
And then God reminds me:
Philippians 4:6–7 NIV
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
That is where I need to stop.
Not because everything on my list suddenly disappears. Not because the bills no longer need to be paid or the work no longer needs to be done.
But because none of it was ever meant to occupy more of my mind than the One who already knows it all.
So today, instead of trying harder to organize every thought, solve every problem and carry every responsibility, I surrender them.
God, thank You for my salvation. Thank You for Your patience with me and Your endless love. Without You giving Yourself for me, I don’t know where I would be.
Thank You for the ability to work. Thank You for the opportunity to build something, pursue dreams, learn new things and even face challenges. I know there are blessings hidden in places I cannot yet see.
Thank You for the doors You open.
And thank You for the doors You close.
Forgive me for the times I become distracted by everything happening around me and begin trying to carry life on my own, forgetting that You have been here the entire time.
Today, I leave the noise with You.
The tasks and the chores. The finances and responsibilities. The dreams and the disappointments. The opportunities and the uncertainties. The things I can control—and especially the things I cannot.
I don't need to figure everything out today.
I need You.
More than another completed task, another accomplishment or another checked box, I long for Your peace—the peace that quiets the noise, guards my heart and reminds me that I can be still.
You already know what tomorrow holds.
So today, I surrender what I’m holding.
In Jesus' name.
Amen
